I am excited to announce that the 2025 Inaugural Honey Harvest took first place in the Amber Division at the Alaska State Fair!
2026 is all about honing my skills.
In 2025, I focused on growing what we eat the most, and wow! We grew almost a years worth of onions and garlic, more than enough potatoes to last us all winter, and enjoyed tomatoes (fresh and frozen) well into 2026. As of writing this, I still have carrots in the freexer from last years harvest.
So, for 2026, I want to elevate my skills by focusing on testing growing methods and varieties to figure out what works best for us. I want to learn to optimize the space I have for best food production. I also want to expand my knowledge of composting to try and produce the best compost I can to feed my garden. I am aiming to buy less and become more self sufficient.Â
I also have a hope to learn to use all my garden goodies. I am hopeing to find an old school distilling system that would allow me to make essential oils from my flowers and herbs, as well as solar infusions so I can make homemade lotions, soaps and salves.
As for flowers, I want to build two new beds in my front yard that will run the length of the fence. They will feature a cottag garden with mainly perennials and pollinator friendly flowers. I also hope to get a fence wuilt aroud the beds to keep out a certain puppy that loves to steal my produce...
