I am excited to announce that the 2025 Inaugural Honey Harvest took first place in the Amber Division at the Alaska State Fair!
Cold. Just cold, cold and more cold. When it wasn't cold we were getting dumped on with snow. The cold came hard and fast in November and never subsided. We also had lots of cold wind at the end of 2025 and that lingered a bit in January. We saw few days that were above zero during these two months. One of the worst winters I have lived through. The cold took all the humidity too, so everyhing was very dry and people were having lots of trouble with sinus infections and everlasting flus. Just horrible.
I'm not gonna waste my time and break down the weather week by week. It was cold. We had freezing temps for the first half of the month (nights in the negative teens and days just around zero degrees) and the second half of the month saw nights below freezing (ranging from zero to -10) with days in the teens.
It was not until the last week of March that we started to see nights in the single digits/teens and days in the low to mid 30s. We did have some final beautiful days when the sun was coming out and warming some of the late afternoons to feels like of low to mid 40s. Finally, we were getting out "normal" temps and all the snow was begining to melt. We had the third coldest March on record. It was cold and sucked, then began a rapid warm up in the last week and the begining of April.
5th-11th: A fairly nice week. Nights were in the mid 20s with days in the high 30s and low 40s. Some days of overcast, but mainly sun. Al the snow has begun to melt quickly, and the bees have been flying for multiple times during the days, doing cleansing flights and removing the dead. We did have a cooler dip at the end of the week. It seems that may last for a few days, then we should be warming up again.
12th-18th: Sunday (the 12th) started with cooler temps in the low 30s and sleet rain/snow almost all day. The wek saw every type of weather. Sunny and warm, cloudy, wet and rainy, and a little snow. Lows were in the mid to high 30s most of the time, with highs in the mid to high 40s. Most of the week averaged out to the mid 30s and overcast. Very mutch a hodgepodge week.
19th-25th: Sunday was yucky and cold, but the begining of the week saw a wintery cold mix, with sun finally coming in the venenings and then following into the middle of the week. IN the sun it was high 40s, in the shade it was low 40s. Nights were hovering right around mid to low 30s.
