I am excited to announce that the 2025 Inaugural Honey Harvest took first place in the Amber Division at the Alaska State Fair!
Cold. Just cold, cold and more cold. When it wasn't cold we were getting dumped on with snow. The cold came hard and fast in November and never subsided. We also had lots of cold wind at the end of 2025 and that lingered a bit in January. We saw few days that were above zero during these two months. One of the worst winters I have lived through. The cold took all the humidity too, so everyhing was very dry and people were having lots of trouble with sinus infections and everlasting flus. Just horrible.
I'm not gonna waste my time and break down the weather week by week. It was cold. We had freezing temps for the first half of the month (nights in the negative teens and days just around zero degrees) and the second half of the month saw nights below freezing (ranging from zero to -10) with days in the teens.
It was not until the last week of March that we started to see nights in the single digits/teens and days in the low to mid 30s. We did have some final beautiful days when the sun was coming out and warming some of the late afternoons to feels like of low to mid 40s. Finally, we were getting out "normal" temps and all the snow was begining to melt. We had the third coldest March on record. It was cold and sucked, then began a rapid warm up in the last week and the begining of April.
5th-11th: A fairly nice week. Nights were in the mid 20s with days in the high 30s and low 40s. Some days of overcast, but mainly sun. Al the snow has begun to melt quickly, and the bees have been flying for multiple times during the days, doing cleansing flights and removing the dead. We did have a cooler dip at the end of the week. It seems that may last for a few days, then we should be warming up again.
12th-18th: Sunday (the 12th) started with cooler temps in the low 30s and sleet rain/snow almost all day. The wek saw every type of weather. Sunny and warm, cloudy, wet and rainy, and a little snow. Lows were in the mid to high 30s most of the time, with highs in the mid to high 40s. Most of the week averaged out to the mid 30s and overcast. Very mutch a hodgepodge week.
19th-25th: Sunday was yucky and cold, but the begining of the week saw a wintery cold mix, with sun finally coming in the venenings and then following into the middle of the week. In the sun it was high 40s, in the shade it was low 40s. Nights were hovering right around mid to low 30s.
26th-2nd: The week has mainly been cloudy and sporadic rain. We have had a few days of sun or clouds and sun. When the sun is out, the weather is nice. Temps without sun are in the mid to high 40s and nights are in the mid to low 30s. We did have one night below freezing, but all other nights are staying at or around 35. The trees are just starting to bud, but nothing is green yet. The bees are bringing in small amounts of pollen, but their pockets are not busting.
3rd-9th: A very cool week. We had a few days where the sun peaked out, but most of the time it was overcast. It rained a few days, but mainly it was light, and then it would get heavy, then light again. The worst part of this week was eventhoug temps wwere registering in the high 40s, it was feels like in the high 30s and low 40s. The bees did not come out much. We still have no major blooming of leaves on the trees. The grass has started to turn green, most of the snow is gone and the trees are budding. I also spotted some dandelions with heads forming. Everything feels about 2 weeks behind schedule right now. Also, wind has been coming from the south and making it seem pretty cool. I am very over it at this point and want my spring to come.
10th-16th: The week started cold with intermittent rain. The feels like are in the mid to high 30s with winds that are making it very chilly outside. We can see prominent buds on the tress, but no leaves yet. By widweek, the weather completly shifted. We had the sun come out and the daytime highs started getting up to mid to high 50s, with nights in the mid 40s. withing 3 days, trees started to bud and turn green.
17th-23rd: Cold and wind returned for the start of the week, but we still had some sun. It was mid 50s, but with the wind it felt like high 40s. We are still staying in the very high 30s and low 40s and night. We have not had a frost since April, which is exciting.
